If you love watermelon, the 4th Annual Watermelon Festival at Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head (Milepost 12.5) is the place to be on Thursday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 100% of proceeds raised at the Watermelon Festival will benefit local Outer Banks children through the local non-profit Wright Flight. The Wright Flight program emulates the Wright Brothers' example of setting goals and achieving them through hard work and discipline for today's youth.

Three local Outer Banks photographers are on display at The Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park. The exhibit of weather and sky photography showcases the beauty of the Outer Banks from the ground up. Photos are available for viewing at the Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. August 1 through August 30. Prints are available for purchase at the gallery as well. Check out the video below.
