If you love watermelon, the 4th Annual Watermelon Festival at Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head (Milepost 12.5) is the place to be on Thursday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 100% of proceeds raised at the Watermelon Festival will benefit local Outer Banks children through the local non-profit Wright Flight. The Wright Flight program emulates the Wright Brothers' example of setting goals and achieving them through hard work and discipline for today's youth.

The fesitval will be divided into four villages. Each village will feature different events.

Sports Town - Seed spitting contests, watermelon bowling, three legged races and a dunk tank are a few of the games and contests featured in Sports Town.

Chillville - Ice-cold refreshments, watermelon slices, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn, and other foods prepared by local Outer Banks restaurants will be available in Chillville for purchase. The pie-eating contest will be held here as well!

Watermelon City - Learn more information about the Outer Banks charity Wright Flight here. Purchase festival merchandise and enter into the raffles when you stop by Watermelon City.

Creative Country - This will be the arts and crafts area of the Watermelon Festival. Make a tie-dye t-shirt, get your face painted, or have a balloon animal made. Creative County will be great fun for children and adults alike.
