What are Your Must-Dos?
From water sports and outdoor adventures to sightseeing and attractions, there are so many ways to add memorable moments to your holiday. Figure out ahead of time what you absolutely must have on your itinerary. Maybe you want to go kayaking on the sound, get dinner at a specific OBX restaurant, snap a photo in front of a lighthouse or go fishing at a local pier. Research and even schedule some excursions in advance or have your list on standby for when you need a beach break. For the days you don’t have plans, don’t forget to follow our Facebook and Instagram stories, as we share lots of fun local events happening around town!
Pack Light!
Aside from the essentials (swimsuit, sunscreen, and a good book), you don’t need much to enjoy an Outer Banks vacation. Save room in the car for all the souvenirs you’ll be bringing home by renting beach equipment from our partners at VayK Gear! Stay Safe
Before you start hauling out the umbrella, chairs, and other gear, it’s important to be aware of current beach and weather conditions. Strong waves and rip currents can make swimming in the ocean prohibited. The weather can change rapidly, from sunny skies to rumbling thunder in minutes. Receive alerts and details on the day’s conditions by texting “Join OBXBeachConditions” to 30890. To stop receiving these messages, simply text "STOP" to 30890.
Never swim alone, stay alert, and always swim near a lifeguard. Find more info on beach hazards and lifeguarded beaches here.
Another tip is to always know your location, whether it be your rental’s physical address or the beach or sound access you’re using. If there’s ever an emergency, you’ll be able to quickly provide those responding with the information they need.
