BrewTag is Fun for the Whole Family
Have you ever thought that the one thing your Outer Banks vacation was missing was the chance to watch 25 teams try to make beer kegs fly? Of course you have. Hasn't everyone?
Well, now you have the opportunity of a lifetime, to attend the inaugural Brewtag in Nag's Head, NC on Saturday, September 6th, 2014.
What Is BrewTag All About?
Brewtag is a festival. Like all great festivals, it includes the finest locally-brewed refreshments and the best music possible. This festival is particular is dedicated to the wonders of flight. It's organized by Kitty Hawk Kites, one of the biggest sport & adventure companies in the Outer Banks, and is inspired by Francis and Gertrude Rogallo, inventors of the "flexible wing" and the intellectual progenitors of amazing inventions like hang gliders, paragliders, and more.
In recognition of this staggering achievement, Brewtag challenges participants to fly a 32-lb empty beer keg. Unfortunately, you're too late to enter this aeronautics challenge this year -- submissions closed on June 15 -- but you can still show up and cheer on the Brew Crews.
Submissions are judged on four criteria: distance flow, time aloft, creativity, and showmanship. Crowd pleasing is encouraged, and has been known to sway the judges. There are a few rules-- the wingspan can only be 16 feet, maximum; the entire craft must weigh 100 lbs or less, and there's absolutely no catapulting allowed!
But Wait, There's More!
But that's not all that Brewtag offers. There's fun for the whole family. An interactive KidZone, local food tastings, and a beer garden where you can sample the finest brews from local microbreweries. There will be local food trucks galore, and demonstrations of all kinds. Everyone's tastes will be satisfied from thrillseekers to gourmets.
