The 28th Annual Rogallo Kite Festival will be held this Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the dunes of Jockey's Ridge State Park located at milepost 12.5 This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
The Rogallo Kite Festival honors NASA Scientist, Francis Rogallo, the inventor of the flexible wing. His inventions started the sport of hang gliding and his designs have carried over into the stunt kites, power kites and hang gliders that are flown today.
Kitty Hawk Kites will have two full days of large kite displays. Large single line kites, including a 100 ft. octopus, an 80 ft. scuba diver and a 50 ft. fish, will soar above Jockey's Ridge. Kitty Hawk Kites will offer free stunt and power kite lessons on the dunes and free kite making and face painting at the Kitty Hawk Kites store in Nags Head (directly across from the festival). Every year, this event receives a fantastic turnout from locals and vacationers alike.These large kites are a must-see!
