Tighten those lines and reel in some blues this week at the 17th annual Hatteras Village Offshore Open Tournament. All boats fishing in the event must register by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10.

It is the first event in the North Carolina Governor’s Cup Series and funds raised support various local charities like the Hatteras Village Civic Association. Fishing will begin the next day, Wednesday, May 11, and continue through Saturday. Boats will use one day as a non-fishing day, and cash prizes and trophies will be handed out to top finishers. Qualifying fish are billfish, tuna, dolphin and wahoo.

Nightly socials will be held at the Hatteras Village Civic Center. Reporting stations for the lay day are Hatteras Harbor Marina (the official weigh station), Oden’s Dock, Teach’s Lair, Village Marina, and Anchorage Marina’s two locations in Atlantic Beach and Ocracoke.

The Hatteras Village Civic Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1965, and supports local adult care, a food pantry, and the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation.

Look no further than Sun Realty for more rest and relaxation on Hatteras Island during the tournament. Summer weather is here and without the summer prices, so you are assured of finding a great vacation rental for family and friends. Make sure you get to brag about catching the big one!
