East Carolina University’s Center for Sustainable Tourism and BlueGreen Outer Banks have come together to create a survey in order to better understand what Outer Banks residents and vacationer’s perceptions of recycling. Take the survey and help the Outer Banks in their sustainable environment efforts.
Did you know?
- Out of 100 counties in North Carolina, Dare County ranked number 1 last year for per capita for recycling.(This ranking is a result of Outer Banks visitor’s recycling efforts. Thank you for making Dare County number 1)
- Dare County is the only county in North Carolina with its own glass crusher. The crushed glass can be picked up for free and used for a variety of purposes including driveways and landscaping.
- Establishments that sell alcoholic beverages on the Outer Banks are required by North Carolina law to recycle their glass bottles.
- Under North Carolina law it is illegal in the Outer Banks to put aluminum cans, plastic water bottles, plastic containers and oyster shells in the landfill.
- The towns of Duck and Southern Shores provide curbside recycling to residents at no additional costs.
