It’s not a true Outer Banks beach vacation until you build a sandcastle. Bring the family to Kitty Hawk Sports Sand Sculpture Festival June 30 – July 2. Sandtastic, a professional sand sculpture company will be building a 50-ton sand sculpture all day Wednesday and until 2 p.m. on Thursday. Stick around Thursday and after the sculpture is completed at 2 p.m. and Sandtastic will hold a Sand Clinic, where you can learn the tricks and tools of the trade. Why just watch the fun? Build some of your own and enter the Sand Castle competitions held on Thursday at 3 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Winners will receive prize packs courtesy of Kitty Hawk Kites. The event is being held at Kitty Hawk Sports at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing shopping center across from Jockey’s Ridge at milepost 12.5 in Nags Head. All proceeds from shirt sales at the festival will go towards the prevention of skin cancer. Doctors from the Outer Banks Hospital will be giving FREE skin cancer screenings on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
