If you’ve traveled to the Outer Banks, you’re probably familiar with the fact that some islands can be reached by the North Carolina Ferry system. I use the ferry for travel when going on my own vacations, as recently as this past Memorial Day weekend. From the perspective of a fellow traveler, if you have not already experienced this alternate form of transportation, I would highly encourage you to try it sometime. The people are some of the friendliest I’ve ever encountered, from the ticket vendors over the phone to the loaders on the docks, and the facilities both on board and ashore are always scrupulously clean. Tickets can be reserved in advance (always a good idea) or bought at the docks before you leave. Traveling by ferry along our shores will enrich your perspective of the Outer Banks and makes for great flavoring when recounting your vacation memories to friends and family.
