Duck,NC -- Residents of and visitors to the Town of Duck and the northern Outer Banks should take notice that construction on improvements to NC 12 (Duck Road) in the south end of the Duck Town limits to mitigate against nuisance flooding caused by storm water will begin on Monday, October 26, 2009.
The project, contracted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to Barnhill Contracting Company, will remove, raise, and repave NC 12 from approximately East and West Bias Lane to East and West Seahawk Drive in the Town of Duck. Additionally, storm water chambers will be installed along the shoulders of NC 12 in this area to hold and allow the infiltration of storm water to alleviate nuisance flooding.
During the duration of this project, from Monday, October 26, 2009, through Friday, May 14, 2010, traffic delays should be expected. A traffic plan is in place to facilitate the movement of vehicles through the construction area. However, residents and visitors should note that the Duck Trail Multi-Use Path will be closed in the project area during this period. Construction activities will be temporarily suspended during the week of Thanksgiving (November 20, 2009-November 30, 2009), the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays (December 18, 2009-January 4, 2010), and during Easter week (April 1, 2010 - April 6, 2010).
