This weekend will kick off the ninth annual Outer Banks Bike Week, when thousands of bikers ascend to the beach for an eight-day excursion of riding, partying and enjoying all the sights and sounds the Outer Banks has to offer.

The most famous Outer Banks attraction, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse opens for the 2011 season on Friday, April 15. On opening day the National Park Service is waiving the $7 fee for adults and the $3.50 fee for senior citizens and kids. Climbing house will be 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily in the spring and fall and 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 27 through Labor Day. Tickets are required.
On Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15 the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge comes to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for the Mid-Atlantic Teams Challenge. Surf shops have to receive an invitation to participate in this coveted contest. This year 280 surfers from over 70 shops will be competing for bragging rights and a $10,000 prize. Winners of the Mid-Atlantic contest will head to the National Challenge in September in Huntington Beach California.
Beaches in South Nags Head will receive a face-lift thanks to the approval of the South Nags Head Beach Nourishment. Approved by both the city and state, sand will be pumped along 10 miles of Outer Banks shoreline in South Nags Head from this spring through October.
