The words "Christmas" and "beach" may not go hand-in-hand for some people, but the Outer Banks is filled with holiday spirit this time of year! (Santa comes to the beach too, you know.) From illuminated lighthouses to Christmas parades, holiday festivities are in full swing. Here are just a few of the many things to see and do on the Outer Banks this holiday season...

Hotline Festival of Trees - Thursday, December 3rd through Sunday, December 5th
The 21st annual event will raise funds for the Outer Banks Hotline Crisis Intervention and Prevention Center. The Festival of Trees events include musical performances, holiday decorations, activities for kids, raffles, and unique Christmas shopping. Of course, the big man himself will make an appearance on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00!

Holiday Illumination at the Whalehead Club - Saturday, December 12th from 3:00-6:30 pm
The historic Whalehead Club in Corolla comes alive with holiday cheer this Saturday! Take advantage of complimentary self-guided audio tours as you enjoy the 1920s-era Christmas decorations. The Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Heritage Park's magnificent cedar tree with be simultaneously lit to mark the beginning of the holiday season. The festivities will be topped off with Christmas carols, carriage rides, and yummy hot chocolate.

Hatteras Village Christmas Parade - Saturday, December 12 at 2:00 pm
Don't miss this fun community event on Hatteras Island. Hundreds of locals and vacationers will gather along NC 12 to watch the holiday floats, fire trucks, vintage cars, and marching bands. The parade route will lead from Teach's Lair Marina to the Hatterasman Drive-In. After the parade, head on over to the Hatteras Village Civic Center for homemade cookies and hot chocolate.

Elizabethan Christmas - Saturday, December 19th from 12:00 to 5:00 pm
Get in the holiday spirit - Olde World style! Join the celebration at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Take part in 16th century holiday traditions and indulge in seasonal food and drink. Partake in dancing, singing, and general merry-making!
