The Eastern Surfing Association has moved their annual East Coast Surfing Championships to Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, NC following the devastation on Hatteras Island from Hurricane Irene. The weeklong competition will begin on September 18, 2011. The contest which is held annually, usually takes place at the old Cape Hatteras Lighthouse location, roughly 50 miles from where it will be held this year. The Eastern Surfing Association released the following statement.

The Eastern Surfing Association would like to thank you for your patience during this difficult decision making period. We have many friends and sponsors on the Hatteras Island that have endured a most difficult time since Hurricane Irene came. All of our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who lost it all and also to those that stepped in and helped those in need. It truly shows what the power of the human spirit can do in devastating times.

We have decided to move the contest this year only to Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, NC with the original starting date of September 18, 2011 and the original heats and schedules.
