Sun Realty’s monthly property managers meeting on August 25th had some extra excitement involved!  In addition to the normal meeting schedule, Kym Rock paid a visit to the meeting for an informational seminar on self-defense.

Kym Rock runs a self-defense program called Fight Like A Girl on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  A former victim of domestic violence, Kym has traveled all over the country using her experience and knowledge to inform and teach people how to protect themselves and avoid harmful situations. Her programs include; personal protection, rape prevention, lifestyle choices, home security and abduction awareness.

The focus of the seminar was safety and self-defense.  Focusing on property management, Kym discussed possible times when an employee could be at risk of being attacked. Situations like showing a property or confronting disgruntled employees & guests were used as examples.

During the 2 hour seminar, Kym taught members of the Sun Realty staff several defense moves, including “Baby Don’t Leave” and “Talk to the Hand”. The catchy names of these defense moves are not to discredit or make a light of, but for individuals to remember easily.  She also gave some great tips on getting into the car safely and what to teach children if they are approached by a potential abductor.

Kym Rock is on the Board for Outer Banks Hotline, a non-profit organization in Dare County on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Hotline gives shelter and support to victims of domestic violence.
