For more than 30 years, Kitty Hawk Kites has hosted one of the biggest flying spectaculars short of the Wright brothers’ first flight. It is back again as Kitty Hawk Kites Hang Gliding Spectacular and Air Games is set for May 20-23 at Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head.

See some of the top competitors perform various skills competitions atop Jockey’s Ridge, the largest sand dune east of the Mississippi River. Most of the flying will be done just inches off the ground, which leads to exciting landings.

The event will move from Nags Head to Currituck County Airport for two days of aero towing competition, which will include an altitude contest, bean bag bomb drop and spot landing task. There will be seminars and hang gliding demonstrations available, and one hang gliding pioneer will be inducted into the Rogallo Hall of Fame.

Everyone is also invited to the Woody Jones Memorial Street Dance, located outside of the Kitty Hawk Kites’ main store in Nags Head, across from Jockey’s Ridge. There will be a band with plenty of fun for all.
