18th Annual Independence Day Festival of Fireworks
6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Whalehead Club
Fireworks begin at dusk but arrive early to enjoy food, fun activities, fabulous music and find a place for your blankets and chairs to settle in for the best fireworks on the Outer Banks! Admission and Parking are free. The Whalehead Club will be open from 12 noon till 8pm on this day for tours. Manteo
America Celebrates
8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Roanoke Island Festival Park
Roanoke Island Festival Park will hold a July 4th celebration that will feature East Carolina University, performing music by George M. Cohan at 8 p.m. The celebration will also include fireworks provided by the town of Manteo. Held at the park’s Pavilion, the celebration is free and open to the public. Seating at the Pavilion is on the grass, so blankets and lawn chairs will add to the relaxed holiday environment. Gates open to the public at 6 p.m. Parking will be available at Roanoke Island Festival Park until the lot is full and in downtown Manteo. Handicap parking will be available at the park. Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo
7th Annual Independence Day Celebration
3:30 p.m. at Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building, 23186 Myrna Peters Dr.

Town of Duck’s 6th Annual Independence Day Parade
9:00 a.m. with an after-event following at the Duck Town Park featuring music by Ruth Wyand & Friends. PLEASE NOTE that the parade is being held on Monday, July 5, 2010 so as not to conflict with weekend summer traffic. The one-mile parade route is the same annually and begins at Scarborough Lane and continues down Ocean Way and then Christopher Drive. 9:30 a.m. to Noon 34th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest at NPS Lifeguard Beach
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ocracoke Lighthouse open for public viewing (walking suggested, limited parking)
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ocracoke Ponies at Pony Pens north of village (viewing)
1 p.m. The Herd Skydiving at Pony Island Motel lawn (times may vary due to weather conditions)
3 p.m. Old Time Ocracoke Parade (Parade Route—Hwy 12 at Jimmy’s Buffet. Follow HWY-12, left onto Lighthouse Road, right onto Creek Road, right onto Silver Lake Drive. Follow road around Silver Lake Harbour to Ocracoke Preservations Society Museum
