Background:
Charlotte NC's Fox News station recently ran a story titled NC Tourism May See a Boost Because of Crisis in the Gulf. No solid numbers are available at this time, but North Carolina tourism officials report that families who traditionally head to Gulf Coast destinations may decide to vacation in NC this year.
Sun Realty's Perspective:
As a vacation rental company on the Outer Banks, Sun Realty is always happy and excited to welcome new visitors. Seeing vacationers experience the OBX for the first time is truly one of the best parts of the job.
We know that folks who usually vacation on the Gulf Coast will love the Outer Banks' gorgeous beaches. However, we also know that their vacations will be tinged with sadness this year - no matter how amazing the new destination is. The beaches where they once played and made memories are now devastated. Many families are wondering if they will ever be able to recapture this special time with loved ones.
The OBX can never take the place of a beloved Gulf Coast destination, but we will do our very best to provide travelers with a wonderful new experience. We'll welcome any new visitors with open arms, and we'll be sensitive to the fact that their family vacation traditions have been damaged - right along with everything else on the Gulf Coast.
Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by this terrible oil spill. "Heartbreaking" doesn't even begin to describe the situation. We hope that the brave people of the Gulf Coast know that the OBX is behind them all the way. More than ever, we truly appreciate the beautiful and fragile coastal environment that we call home. We now look at a healthy pelican or a pristine stretch of beach with a whole new level of gratitude.
May the people, wildlife, businesses, land and water of the Gulf Coast
see a complete, rapid and total recovery...
