The Eastern Surfing Association's annual Easterns Championship is off to a rocking start this week in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The contest originally slated for Hatteras Island, had to be moved north to Jennette's Pier in Nags Head after Hurricane Irene devastated the region in August.
The contest was scheduled to begin Sunday, September 18 but was postponed due to bad weather. Monday morning heats began at 7 a.m. and competitors fought the rough rip currents and swell until 1:30 p.m. when judges called the contest off due to female competitors being swept under the pier and too close to pilings in the rough seas. Tuesday started off with a beautiful sunrise and heats beginning at 7 a.m. View action from the ESA Easterns on Tuesday morning below.
