Veteran's Day Weekend, November 7-8
Whether you're a runner, walker, or spectator, everyone has fun over the Outer Banks Marathon weekend! With only 24 days until the 2009 OBX Marathon, the beach is buzzing in preparation. The entire community really comes together to cheer runners and walkers on to the finish line. Last year, approximately 15,000 event participants, family members, and spectators were warmly welcomed by OBX locals. Old-fashioned coastal hospitality is abundant as visitors from all over the country and world descend upon the Outer Banks.
Now, you may be picturing lots of fat-free, Spandex-clad distance runners. While there ARE plenty of amazing elite-level athletes present, you'll also find a wide assortment of "regular folks." The organizers of the 2009 Outer Banks Marathon weekend have done an excellent job of planning events for every skill level. In addition to the full marathon, there will be a half marathon, 8k, and a fun run for families. Plus, all races are walker-friendly. You'll find all ages and all types of people participating in the events.
Even if you're not running, it's practically mandatory to take part in the traditional carbfest the night before the marathon. Hey, it's a perfectly good excuse to stuff yourself with all-you-can-eat pasta! After the marathon, head to Roanoke Island for the "Party Like a Pirate" post-race event. You'll find live music, yummy food, plenty of beverages, and runners in the mood to celebrate.
Come down to the Outer Banks this Veteran's Day weekend or at least mark it on your calendar for next year. In addition to marathon events, you'll find fantastic Outer Banks fishing, historic attractions, and countless family activities (not to mention an endless supply of pristine coastline.)
