There are no commercial chain establishments within Avon, and the atmosphere holds a true Hatteras Island charm while mixing the new with the old. Two-miles south of Avon near Buxton Village is Canadian Hole, one of the best windsurfing and kiteboarding spots along the entire Outer Banks. Located on the west side of HWY 12, year-round watersports enthusiasts can be seen enjoying this idyllic water hole that brings in winds for a thrilling ride.
