After a 1,000 mile journey along the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea trail, seeing the beautiful shores of the Outer Banks of North Carolina will be the perfect ending for eighteen Marines raising awareness and money for injured service members.
Fortunate Sons, a group of 18 Marines, are in the midst of collectively hiking the entire 1,000-mile North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail with the goal of raising money and awareness. The 42-day journey began Oct. 2 at Clingman's Dome in the Great Smokey Mountains and ends at Jockey's Ridge in Nags Head on the Outer Banks on Veterans Day weekend, Nov. 13.
Fortunate Sons will average a marathon a day (26.2 miles) and complete their journey along the Outer Banks at Jockey’s Ridge State Park, on November 13th. They will accomplish this feat as a relay, with two Marines on the trail at all times.
All the proceeds and money raised during their 42 day hike will benefit The Injured Marines Semper Fi Fund. More than 30,000 grants totaling $50,000,000 have been given to injured Marines, their families and other service members who have been wounded in support of the Marine Corps. The Semper Fi Fund has an operational cost of less than 5%.
